Wikipedia goes black tomorrow to protest SOPA & PIPA
Wikipedia and Reddit will go dark tomorrow in protest of pending legislation – the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the U.S. House of Representatives and the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) in the U.S. Senate. The bills have the potential to forever alter the internet we currently enjoy by giving unprecedented power to the government to shut down websites.
Google’s prominent search page will also feature an announcement in opposition to the legislation. Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, and Amazon are among high-profile online companies who are opposed to the bills. Domain registrar GoDaddy lost over 37,000 domains last month after they released a statement supporting SOPA.
