Stardust

There’s an amazing movie out titled Stardust that hasn’t received adequate promotion or press coverage, but has been rated rather highly by critics and the public. We went to see it last night and practically had the whole theater to ourselves, since there were only 2 people in the audience besides us and our friend, Sherry.
The film stars Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Claire Danes, Sienna Miller, & Charlie Cox and is basically a fairy tale. A young man promises his romantic interest that he will bring her a fallen star in return for her hand in marriage. This leads him to cross the Wall – a low stone fence that separates England from a mystical land of magic and surprise – where he soon realizes that he isn’t the only one in pursuit of the thing that fell from the sky.
Pfeiffer plays a hideous witch and is wickedly delicious, while De Niro plays the captain of an air ship who uses his rough demeanor to camouflage a rather hilarious softer side. The visual effects are astounding and there’s plenty of humor and suspense to make it a very enjoyable experience.
My rating: B+

How could Michelle Pfeiffer ever be hideous or witchy? I love all those actors, and I’ve never heard of this movie. Now I’ll look for it. Thanks for the review!
@ Wendy – She obviously spent several hours in the makeup chair to look bad, as she’s normally one of the most gorgeous creatures alive.
I just have to say I absolutely loved Stardust, I actually saw it twice, was nothing like i expected, but can’t rave enough about it! Robert De Niro was one of the best parts of that movie! Nothing beats a cross dressing captain of a pirate ship.

That’s the truth!
Another Brian thumbs up movie that I’ll have to watch.
(“Tarnation” was absolutely amazing, I thought. Beautiful and disturbing and fearless. Thank you so much for discussing this one.)
My children went to see it and loved it. They especially liked Robert Deniro as the gay pirate captain. I have not have the time to see it, but I intend to.
